What Is An iMac?

Hello everyone, how are you all doing today? I hope you are all having a great day so far. This week has been hectic to say the least, I just found out that my Grandma has to have hip surgery this week after she fell at home, luckily she stays with my cousins so they are looking after her, but anyway read on…

Have you always wondered, what exactly is an iMac? Why do they even call it ‘iMac’? I know I am not the only one. You see it on tv, you see it online, hell, you might even own an iMac computer but still what is it? What makes it so different from a MacBook Pro or even a “regular” MacBook? Let’s find out.

What Makes An iMac A Good Desktop Computer?

The iMac is a range of all-in-one Macintosh desktop computers designed and built by Apple Inc. It has been the primary part of Apple’s consumer desktop offerings since its debut in August 1998 (shipped; introduced June 1998), and has evolved through six distinct forms.

Apple introduced the new 27-inch iMac with Retina 5K Display as a high-end addition to the iMac lineup, with the new machine carrying a 5120 x 2880 display and starting at $2499. On May 19, 2015, Apple introduced a new $1999 27-inch Retina 5K iMac and dropped the price of the high-end stock model to $2299, but the remainder of the iMac lineup is unchanged in specs or pricing.

The Retina iMac is very similar to the non-Retina version in most respects, with the obvious exception of the display and higher-end processor and graphics options to help drive the massive screen. As had been rumored, the Retina iMac adopts AMD graphics and high-end Haswell processors.
