Adding a new Mastercard card to Apple Pay isn’t currently possible, as the service seems to be experiencing an outage that makes the whole thing impossible.
In other words, if you’ve just bought a new iPhone and want to set up Apple Pay, you won’t be able to add your Mastercard card to the Wallet. This is because of an ongoing outage hitting Apple Pay, with the Cupertino-based iPhone experience acknowledging the problems and revealing that it’s already working on a fix for the whole thing.
No further information has been provided on the problem, but in theory, everything should be working properly with other cards, such as those from VISA.
Needless to say, Mastercard cards that have already been added to Apple Pay continue to work properly. I can confirm this is the case, as I have two different Mastercard cards configured in Apple Pay, and both of them are working correctly during this outage.
