iPhone 12’s Most Surprising Feature Could Be “iPhone OS”

Apple’s new-generation iPhone is expected in the fall with a series of major improvements, including 5G support across the lineup, but according to a recent report, the biggest change could actually take place in the software department.

iPhone 12 could officially mark the return of the iPhone OS branding, as Apple is reportedly looking into renaming its iOS operating system.

Apple leakster Jon Prosser suggests the operating system could be renamed to iPhone OS, a moniker that the Cupertino-based tech giant actually used in the early days of the iPhone. iPhone OS was eventually renamed to iOS in 2010, and now it looks like Apple could return to this name as part of its attempt to align the mobile operating system with the rest of the products that it owns.
