Apple’s iPhone 8 to Ditch Home Button in Favor of Virtual Capacitive Buttons

Apple is expected to make major design changes to its iPhone 8 or X, the phone that will mark the ten-year anniversary since the first iPhone was launched. A report by KGI Securities analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo reveals that Apple might go so far as to ditch the home button.

The analyst believes that the 2017 iPhone will have an OLED 5.8-inch display with 5.15 inches of usable screen space, some of it will be reserved to virtual capacitive buttons, according to the report. This would mean that Apple plans to remove the home button completely, thus reducing the bezel size on the new phone.

The Touch ID fingerprint recognition technology embedded in the home button will also be ditched, there are many rumors that say Apple will employ a new technology that places the fingerprint sensor into the display.
