Apple Patents a MacBook That Looks a Lot Like Microsoft’s Surface Book

Apple once said that the MacBook would always stick with a traditional laptop design, downplaying Microsoft’s push for 2-in-1 devices and products whose screens can be removed and used separately as tablets.

This is the case of the Microsoft Surface Book, the Redmond-based software giant’s flagship product that comes with an innovative hinge design, allowing the screen to be disconnected from the keyboard.

The display assembly houses its very own battery, so it can run independently without a keyboard, relying entirely on touch input.

And according to a new patent discovered by Patently Apple, the Cupertino-based tech giant might explore a similar approach with a new MacBook design that would include a multi-roller hinge system and possibly a detachable screen.
