Apple Defies the Market and Increases Smartphone Sales in Q3

New data shared by research firm IDC reveals that the worldwide smartphone shipments declined no more, no less than 9.7 percent in the third quarter of this year as compared to the same quarter a year ago.

“The drop marks the largest-ever third quarter decline and the fifth consecutive quarter of decline for the smartphone market as shipments continue to struggle amidst weakened global demand and economic uncertainties,” IDC says.

Needless to say, the majority of phone makers have been impacted by the decline, including market leader Samsung.

On the other hand, Apple is the only company that managed to boost its sales versus the same quarter a year ago

More specifically, the Cupertino-based tech giant sold a total of 51.9 million iPhones during the quarter, up from 51.1 million units a year ago. The company’s market share has increased from 15.3 percent to 17.2 percent.
