Android Will Remain the King of Mobile for At Least 4 More Years
A new report from IDC indicates that after a 0.3 percent decline in 2017, the smartphone market is likely to drop again this year, before eventually returning to growth in 2019.
Specifically, this means that 1.462 billion smartphones will be sold this year, down from 1.465 billion in 2017 and 1.469 billion in 2016. Next year, the entire market is projected to record a 3 percent growth and then increase gradually until eventually reaching 1.654 billion units in 2022.
An in-depth analysis of the expected performance of Android and iOS reveals that Google’s mobile operating system will continue to rule the market, while Apple will maintain nearly the same level as this year, with a small improvement thanks to new iPhone generations.
“There is no question that Android is the OS of choice for the mass market and nothing leads us to believe this will change,” IDC explains.
